Evil Dead Rise revisits what makes the originals classics
EVIL DEAD RISE hits theaters this weekend and writer director Lee Cronin is another example of why more films should be made for fans, by fans. Lee grew up in Dublin and in many interviews spoke about how his family would watch horror films when he was growing up. His story would continue with him being forced to flee once an intense scene would come up on the tv screen but as he would remove himself from seeing the scene, he would instead observe the reaction of his family. Those reactions are what he aims to recreate for the fans of his films. In a way, he continues to make movies for his family.
EVIL DEAD movies are one of his favorites and its clear to see that while watching the latest installment. There’s so much attention to detail and tons of lore both referred to and that he builds on, yet Cronin is also able to incorporate horror elements modern day audiences are sure to appreciate. It’s a film school textbook on making a genuine horror film and the studio is primed to expand on this franchise.

‘Mad Heidi’ takes grindhouse genre to all new heights
In a dystopian Switzerland that has fallen under the fascist rule of an evil cheese tyrant (Van Dien), Heidi (Lucy) lives a pure and simple life in the Swiss Alps. Grandfather Alpöhi (Schofield) does his best to protect Heidi, but her desire for freedom soon lands her in trouble with the dictator’s henchmen. When pushed too far the innocent Heidi transforms into a kick-ass warrior who sets out to liberate her country from the heinous cheese fascists. Mad Heidi is an action-adventure exploitation extravaganza based on the popular children’s book character Heidi and the world’s first Swissploitation film.
