First Clips From Cannes-Bound Sci-Fi Thriller Trüebadour Finally Revealed
Award-winning cinematographer Daphne Qin Wu has revealed an exciting sneak peek at tech noir sci-fi thriller Trüebadour via an IG takeover of The International Community of Female⁺ Cinematographers page.
The ICF⁺C aims to support and build a community for mid-career, gender minority cinematographers and often invites extraordinary professionals to share their work through IG takeovers. Wu was one of American Cinematographer’s 2021 Rising Stars of Cinematography, and she was honored as a 2022 BAFTA Breakthrough US participant.
Wu’s post also serves as the first official look at star Ryan Bergara in action as Mike, founder of the cutting-edge game studio at the center of Trüebadour. When an enigmatic prodigy introduces the tech startup to his invention—an AI device that creates a work of fiction based on the wearer’s subconscious—the team’s darkest secrets are revealed through disturbing stories, and Mike’s meticulously crafted world is put at risk.
Describing the film, Wu says, “When I do Q&As for various things, I usually say my dream project as a Director of Photography is a science fiction film set in space – and this feature gave me a dash of that! But this was also a science fiction film set in an office, a cabin in the woods, a ghost town, and inside an AI-image generator.
Visually, we had the ‘real world’ and the various realities our characters find themselves in, so we had a lot of different cameras, formats, lenses. In the main storyline, our modular white conference table became its own sort of visual character as we used it as a bounce board most of the film! We shot in Los Angeles, Frasier Park, and drove to Yuma, AZ in 2025, all with my beloved LA-based crew.”

For Bergara, best known for starring in Watcher Entertainment’s Ghost Files and Buzzfeed Unsolved, Trüebadour marks his first leading film role. He is joined by co-star Kevin Kreider and a promising lineup of supporting cast.
No official world premiere date has been announced for Trüebadour, but a 2026 release is expected. The film is currently being shopped by Avatar Entertainment at the Cannes market, as reported by Deadline. Avatar Entertainment sold Charon, another film from writer/director Jennifer Zhang, at the Cannes market in 2021.
