Fate and Violence Converge in new drama “5 LBS of Pressure” from Writer/Director Phil Allocco

Published

on

This week in select theaters and on video on demand you can catch 5 LBS of Pressure which is the latest from writer/director Phil Allocco and has a talented cast that features Luke Evans, Rory Culkin, and Rudy Pankow. I had the honor of chatting with Phil about his inspiration for the film and how music has helped in his quest of filmmaking.

Filmmaker Phil Allocco is a feature film and commercial writer/director. His work has garnered over 60 awards and nominations. He was one of the short-listed directors picked by Steven Spielberg from a world-wide search of over 12,000 directors for his US TV series ‘On the Lot’ for FOX TV. His feature film ‘The Truth About Lies,’ was released theatrically in 2017 and won 14 awards at festivals including “The Best of Fest” at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

In this gripping action-thriller, Adam (Luke Evans), an ex-con back in his old neighborhood after serving a 16-year stretch for murder, walks a rocky path of forgiveness toward the son who grew up without him, while the bitter, volatile brother of the youth he killed looms in the background. Meanwhile, Mike (Rory Culkin), sick of doing the bidding of his drug-dealing uncle (Alex Pettyfer), is desperate to leave his sordid life behind. When Adam and Mike’s paths converge, inescapable destiny will give way to violence…and a final, fleeting shot at redemption.

SDCC 2024: Stimson Snead Interview

Happy San Diego Comic-Con everyone. My first guest is Stimson Snead, the writer, director and star of the marvelous sci-fi comedy: Tim Travers and the Time Travelers Paradox. Catch him at SDCC July 25 from 4L30 – 6:30 in the Indigo Ballroom for a fantastic panel moderated by Doug Jones that includes SAM DUNNING, FELICIA DAY, DAVID BABBIT, NICOLE MURRAY, EDITOR JASON MCKEE & PRODUCER BEN YENNIE.

It is called the Time Traveler’s Paradox. In which a scientist creates a Time Machine and kills their younger self. So now a man who should not- can not- exist, somehow does. That is the Paradox, and Paradoxes are impossible. And the man who has created it, is Tim Travers. A reclusive mad scientist whose stated mission in life is to stand alone with God at the end of time, and tell the bastard off!!

In the course of his adventure, Tim Travers will take on the mercenary gang whose stolen plutonium powers his machine, challenge an Alex Jones esk podcaster to a battle of wits, create a black hole, meet the one woman alive crazier than him, clone himself, destroy the universe, make a new one, and maybe-just maybe- learn to love himself at last.

TIM TRAVERS AND THE TIME TRAVELER’S PARADOX was written & directed by Stimson Snead. The film was executive produced by Ben Yennie, Felicia Day, and Rich Cowan, and produced by Kylie Walchuk and Casey Cowan. The film has a running time 104 minutes and is available for sale in all territories. TIM TRAVERS AND THE TIME TRAVELER’S PARADOX premiered at 2024 Cinequest where it won Best Comedy Feature. It also just screened at Dances With Films, SIFF, BIFFF and Phoenix International Film Festival, where it won Best Science Fiction Feature.

I sat down with director Brian Skiba as we talk about his new action thriller, CLEAR CUT. The film features Alec Baldwin, Clive Standen and Stephen Dorff.

Synopsis: Every moment is filled with danger for a man cutting timber in the Pacific Northwest, but Jack becomes the target of a brutal assault from more than the elements in this action-packed thriller. As Jack ventures deeper into the woods, he crosses paths with a criminal band of madmen from his past intent on killing him before he can fight his way back to civilization. Academy Award Nominee Alec Baldwin, Stephen Dorff and Tom Welling star in an electrifying drama about one man’s treacherous journey on the road to redemption.

Director and cast interviews for ‘The Last Breath’

Dropping later this week in select theaters and VOD is the suspenseful “shark” thriller, THE LAST BREATH. Joining me from the film are the main stars, Jack Parr and Kim Spearman and director Joachim Heden. Hear about their experiences, the obstacles they faced and if they are at all afraid of sharks themselves.

Synopsis: Finding the long-lost wreck of the warship USS Charlotte has been the lifelong pursuit of Levi (Julian Sands), an aging expat running a tourist dive business in the British Virgin Islands together with recent college dropout Noah (Jack Parr). When the USS Charlotte emerges for the first time in eighty years after a tropical storm, Noah’s friends visiting the island insist for them all to do a once-in-a-lifetime dive on the newly discovered wreck before it’s handed over to the authorities. The dream dive rapidly turns into a nightmare as they become trapped in the darkness of the Charlotte’s interior, thirty meters down and with a dwindling air supply. And then they discover that they are not alone.
